Special Education Courses

2000-2001




COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM Grade level: 9-12

Prerequisite: Referral by parent, teacher, or counselor, recommendation by a case conference committee and written parental permission.

This course is designed as an individualized program for students who exhibit various learning difficulties as specified by the case conference committee. The objectives of the program, as developed by the case conference committee, include the following:

To integrate students to the maximum extent possible in the school and the community;
To teach students to function as independently as possible in all school, vocational, and community environments as outlined on the student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP);
To integrate all ancillary services necessary for students to meet their individual goals; and
To develop a transition plan to meet students' post graduation needs.


MULTI CATEGORICAL RESOURCE/INDEPENDENT STUDY Grade level: 9-12

Prerequisite: Referral by parent, teacher, or counselor, recommendation by a case conference committee and written parental permission.

This course is designed as an individualized program for students who exhibit various learning difficulties as specified by the case conference committee. The objectives of the program are:

To assist the student with organizational skills, and
To assist the student with reading and written work for his or her regular curriculum, or
To teach the required academic courses in an individualized manner as set forth in the student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP), and
To implement additional objectives as stated on the student's IEP.
These objectives are developed at the case conference by the case conference committee. Students may spend from one to four periods per day in their assigned programs and earn a total of one credit per period provided they satisfactorily complete the course requirements specified by their IEP
.
