| BASIC PHYSICAL EDUCATION
- N701 (Full year = 1 credit) Grade level: 9
A required course, generally completed during
the freshman year. The course will offer several activities
throughout the year. Activities include: (1) team sports,
(2) individual sports, (3) aquatic, and (4) recreational
activities. Adaptive activities, modifications of any other
activity, are provided to meet an individual physical need.
The course is required of all students for graduation and
will be scheduled as Basic Physical Education 1-2.

| HEALTH AND SAFETY - N704
(1 Semester) Grade levels: 10-12
Health Education is a one semester, one credit
course, which should be completed during the sophomore year.
The course includes a study of the problems relating to
mental, physical, and social health, which is incorporated
in all units of study. Information on pertinent communicable
and chronic diseases, aspects of nutrition and fitness are
included. The family life unit will cover basic male and
female anatomy and physiology followed by an extensive study
at how the man and woman can take steps to prevent birth
defects in the next generation. CPR training is also taught
using up-to-date materials and equipment. Breast and testicular
cancer information will also be provided in the course.
Knowledge and practice will be included to help the individual
prevent accidents and to care for himself and others when
accidents do occur. The course also places much emphasis
on helping students to distinguish between the serviceable
and the harmful forms of depressants and stimulants. This
course is not repeatable for credit.

ADVANCED PHYSICAL CONDITIONING
- N706 (1 Sem. or Full year) Grade levels: 10-12
Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Basic Physical Education
The immediate purpose of this course is to
develop the student's strength and explosive power. The
program followed in this class is designed to develop total
body strength. Each participant is shown how to develop
their strengths, and how to measure their improvement. We
evaluate progress at the end of each grading period. This
course is open to females and males; it is a year long offering,
but may be taken for either semester; and the course is
repeatable.

ADVANCED PHYSICAL EDUCATION-LIFE
TIME SPORTS-N705 (1 Semester or Full year) Grade levels:
10-12
Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Basic Physical Education.
A variety of recreational and fitness activities
will be offered throughout the semester. Emphasis will be
placed on activities that the student will be able to use
for recreation and physical fitness as an adult in the Bloomington
area. Students will learn the rules, skills and the strategies
necessary to be successful in each activity. Singular and
dual activities such as tennis, badminton, table tennis,
golf, and bowling will form the foundation for this course.
The course will also have some work on team sports such
as softball and volleyball, and will have a variety of aerobic
activities that may be used for fitness alternatives as
adults. This course is repeatable for credit with teacher
permission.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE EDUCATION
- N708 (1 Semester) Grade levels:
9-12
This course examines the causes and dangers of drug abuse,
classifications and effects of drugs, and prevention and treatment
of drug abuse. |
